This week, ETQW Mapping's fearless captain Terry 'Salteh' Seidler takes a look at the alpha release of Donnovan's Retake of the Andes map for Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and checks out the latest alpha release of the highly anticipated Wheels of War mod. To top it all off, the saltiest of Terrys even throws out a challenge to all the aspiring zombie crushers / destruction derby participants out there in the form of Wheels of War's freshly added global lap times leaderboard. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Map Source Files Released
To mark Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory's recent five year anniversary, Splash Damage has received id Software's blessing to release the source files for all of the official multiplayer maps packaged with the game. It's even possible to import these into Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars's level editor, so you can create faithful ETQW ports of these if you want to. You can grab the source files here on the Splash Damage website.

ETQW Official Competition Mod Released
The Official Competition Mod for Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars has been released and can be grabbed from the Splash Damage website. The mod allows server admins and tournament organizers to easily implement and enforce specific rule-sets via a host of new customization options. An extensive Wiki page detailing the features of the mod and how to use them can be found here in the Splash Damage Wiki. On top of all this, we're also intending to release the Competition Mod source code in the near future for all you aspiring modders to tinker with, so keep an eye out for that.

ETQW Demo Available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
A free demo of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store. Each demo comes with one map and can be played online with other players or offline with bots.
On the Xbox, Sewer is the battlefield of choice and has the human GDF on the attack trying to flush the Strogg out of (surprisingly enough) a sewer system in Japan. PlayStation gamers get to fight on Island, where GDF forces are trying to steal a data disc from the entrenched Strogg. Both maps features a healthy mix of outdoor and indoor combat, and there are ample tactical options for all of the classes in the game.
ETQW Nominated for Best Use of a License at Develop Awards
The finalists for the Develop Industry Excellence Awards have been announced and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars received a rather substantial nod in the form of a nomination for Best Use of a License. ETQW PC developer Splash Damage also scored a nomination for Best Independent Studio.
The Develop Industry Excellence Awards are given out annually and are arguably the most prestigious developer awards in the UK. The winners will be announced on July 30 during this year's Develop Conference and Expo in Brighton.
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Weekend on Xbox Live
To mark the release of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars on Xbox 360, Microsoft is pulling out all the stops this coming weekend. There'll be a multitude of ETQW-related events going on, including the chance to play with members of id Software, Splash Damage, and Nerve Software. Better yet, there's a plethora of prizes to be won, including Xbox 360 Elites and lots of ETQW merchandise. Here's a run-down of the events:
- Play with the Developers

Ed Stern interviewed on Thunderbolt Games
Thunderbolt Games recently had a brief chat with Splash Damage's Senior Game Designer Ed 'BongoBoy' Stern about the just released console versions of the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars. In the interview, Ed also shared a few bits of knowledge about Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory's design and lasting appeal, as well as his thoughts on some of the other multiplayer shooters out there at the moment.

Following up on the smash hit that was the initial installment, ETQW Mapping's Terry 'Salteh' Seidler once again deploys his all-seeing editing community observer telescope for another episode of Snap to Grid, Splash Damage's regular look at the happenings in the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars editing community.
In this latest chapter, we take a look at the very cool Dusk mod, which seeks to combine the thrill of being chased by a horde of hungry Strogg zombies with the excitement of getting the heck away from them. Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Offically Invades US Consoles
Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners in the United States can now join the war for Earth, as Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars officially hits store shelves around the country. Coinciding with the release, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the official statistics site have gone online as well so you can track your progress and see how you stack up against the rest of the world. Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars 1.5 Game Update Released
The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars 1.5 game update is now available for download both via the in-game updater and the mirrors below. 1.5 comes with a large number of improvements and fixes, a full breakdown of which you can find in this blog update.
If you have the Steam version of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars, you can get the update automatically by simply starting up your Steam client. The Mac version of the update is still rumbling through Aspyr's QA department and should be released within the next few days.

ETQW 1.5 Software Development Kit Available
With the impending release of the 1.5 update for ETQW, we've got the latest version of the Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Software Development Kit (SDK) for you to download. This one's fully compatible with ETQW 1.5 and incorporates the following improvements:
- EditWorld:
- Added shortcut key for active XY view (Shift+F5)
- Fixed autocompletion in the editor's console
- Fixed compile warnings not properly showing in references
- Fixed brush texture find and replace replacing the entire brush's texture
- Fixed properties sometimes not showing their values
- Changed Warning window to stay "locked" to the world it was initially loaded with
- Code:
- Added XCode projects to allow mods to be compiled for OSX

Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars 1.5 Later Today
Great news: The Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars 1.5 game update is currently headed straight for the tubes of the internet! We're planning to push the Windows and Linux versions along with the upated SDK this evening London time, while the folks at Aspyr are currently putting the finishing touches on the Mac version. If you want to read up on the changes and improvements included in 1.5, you can do so by way of this blog update. To round out the impending file assault, we'll also have the final version of the Official Competition Mod available within the coming days.
As soon as the 1.5 update is ready for download, we'll publish a list of mirrors here on the ETQW Community Site, so keep checking back!
Stars and Stripes Features ETQW, Looks To Steal Weapon Ideas
US military newspaper Stars and Stripes recently had a chat with id Software's Kevin Cloud and Splash Damage's Senior Game Designer Ed 'BongoBoy' Stern about Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and some of its design aspects. Since their readership largely consists of military types, a good part of the Q&A actually focuses on how ETQW's weapons were evolved from what's available on the battlefield today and the philosophy behind the combat tactics featured in the game. Even if you know ETQW inside out and have devoured every interview published so far, this one should make for some very interesting and fresh reading, so don't miss it.
Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars Xbox 360 Achievements Revealed
For those planning to pick up the Xbox 360 version of Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars and wondering what magical achievements they can look forward to, look no further! You can find the complete breakdown in list-esque fashion right over here, sporting some 50 achievements in total. The goods are fairly evenly spread out across ETQW's instant action, campaign, and Xbox Live multiplayer modes, so there's something for everyone.
